John Shear, LCSW-R

Clinical Social Worker since 1988, with experience providing therapy for families, couples, adolescents, children and adults. Emphasizes the identification of the strengths that are present in any individual or family regardless of how difficult things currently are.

Treatment Philosophy

My approach to counseling emphasizes the identification of the strengths that are present in individual, couple or family regardless of how difficult things currently are. I believe that building on these strengths gives people a base from which to understand why their problems are happening now and what needs those problems might be helping them meet. Counseling involves helping them find different ways to meet those needs that don’t cause so much difficulty for them or those who care about them. My ultimate goal is to help clients reach a point at which counseling is no longer necessary for them to function well. The thing that I find most satisfying about my work is being able to play some part in helping people leave behind old ways of thinking, feeling, and doing to begin to lead more satisfying lives.
